    Prof. Dr. Amr Serag Eldeen

Mohamed Amr Serag El Din is a professor of thermo-fluids and CFD mechanical engineering in the mechanical engineering department at The American University in Cairo.

He received his BSc (1970) and MSc (1973) degrees in mechanical engineering from the mechanical power department of Cairo University.

After graduation, he was appointed TA at the department, and served there until he joined the Mechanical Engineering Heat Transfer section of the Imperial College for Science and Technology (IC) in 1973 to pursue his studies under the direct supervision of professor Brian Spalding (DSc), globally recognized as the father of CFD.

Amr was granted a PhD from Imperial in 1977, and after some short post-doctoral research at the Atomic Energy labs in Harwell, UK, he returned to Cairo University to resume his academic career; first as an assistant Professor (1977), then associate (1983) and finally full professor (1988).

Serag El Din remained affiliated with Cairo University until joining AUC in 1996. However, for four years (1983-1987) he joined IBM's WTC research center in Egypt, where he first joined as a scientist, and was later promoted to project leader and finally to projects coordinator. His main task during this period was to develop new computer intensive applications in thermo-fluids.

From 1988-1996, Serag El Din founded and supervised the Higher Institute for Energy in Aswan as the acting dean. This institute was the result of joint collaboration between the Ministries of Higher Education and Energy, and was the first institute to be accredited by the Supreme Council of Higher Universities.

Serag El Din joined AUC in Fall 1996, as a full time faculty in the then Mechanical Engineering unit of the Engineering department. He taught Thermo-fluids and Computational Analysis courses. In Fall 1997 he was appointed Unit head and occupied that position until the unit expanded to a full blown department in Fall 2000. He then chaired the newly born department for the following six years (2000-2006).
